Low Moor Station Opening Date

8:30am, Sunday 2nd April 2017.

The first train in 50 years will depart from Low Moor on Sunday 2nd April, after years of tireless campaigning, the station will finally open.

The station is the culmination of work by BRUG, the Friends of Low Moor Station, local councillors, Bradford Council and WYCA.

Come down to the station and celebrate the transformation of the station, and a new future for Low Moor and Bradford South.

Woodlands Gala Day (Sunday 26th July)

The Friends of Low Moor Station and Bradford Rail Users will have a stand at the Woodlands Cricket Club Gala day, come and visit our stand, and follow us on twitter @bradfordrail as we talk to local residents about the new railway station that is being built.

Low Moor – update

A quick update about Low Moor railway station.

The station is due to open within the December 2015 timetable. For non-rail experts that means it will open between 13th December 2015 and 14th May 2016.

Whilst this is a bit window of time, it is highly likely the station will open in January 2016.

The group is working closely with the Friends of Low Moor Station, local councillors and WYCA and others to ensure the station is opened as soon as possible.

BRUG and FOLMS will be hosting a stand at the Woodlands Cricket Club gala on Sunday 26th July talking to local residents about the new station. We hope to see you there!

Low Moor Station

The inaugural meeting of the “Friends of Low Moor Railway Station

Wednesday 27th February 2013 at 7pm

Victoria Park Bowling Club Hut
Cleckheaton Road, Oakenshaw, BD12 7AT

If you want to help with the re-opening of Low Moor station, please come along and lend your support.

£5.5 million of funding for the station is secure, but we need to help improve the business case the station to ensure that South Bradford gets its railway station back!

Bradford Council, Metro, Northern Rail and Network Rail all support the scheme. But we need the public’s support to help show the benefits this station will have to South Bradford & North Kirklees.

With public support the station could be open within 2 years!

For more information please follow @bradfordrug.

** The meeting is organised by the Bradford South Area Co-ordinator’s Office, Part of Bradford Council.

Low Moor railway station forum

Residents of Low Moor are invited to a forum meeting at Holy Trinity Church, Park House Road, Low Moor on Wednesday 23rd January from 7pm.

By attending this meeting you will remind Bradford Council and Metro of the importance this station will play to the local community.

Low Moor railway station – pushed back further

Metro’s website has now been updated. Low Moor railway was previously due to open in “December 2014”. This has now been updated to “late 2014/early 2015”.

The most logical time for the station to open would be 14th December 2014, railway’s principal change date. And from a publicity aspect if the station was due to open early, then why change the date?

Therefore it is reasonable to assume that the date will actually be “early 2015”, and the most sensible time for introducing the service would be the 15th May 2015. 3 years away.

We are concerned that the station is being pushed down the track and that the residents of Low Moor will continue to have a railway line with no station! – The creation of a railway leads to economic growth and increase house values.

Low Moor – December 2013

WYITA / Metro have announced a push back Low Moor railway station completion date to December 2013.

Low Moor Station – On Track – But Late

WYITABreaking News: Low Moor railway station has been saved in WYITA’s development plan, following a meeting of the executive this morning.
However it is not planned to be built until 2013/14.

BRUG congratulates WYITA for choosing to save Low Moor from amongst the other schemes and hopes that funding can be confirmed following the comprehensive spending review.

T&A Article available here.

Low Moor station – Back On! (Possibly)

WYITAWYITA is meeting on Friday 30th July to discuss a number of funding options, due to the planned shortfall in central government money.

Therefore WYITA’s spending plans have been rationalised …. and Low Moor is still on the plan! The station is estimated to cost of £5.5million based on their figures.

Metro may still be proved right about 2012 completion date for opening the station.

BUT…

This could come crashing down in the Autumn with the Government’s comprehensive spending review, when all schemes are to be re-evaluated.

BRUG will continue to lobby both local and national government for the funds to bring this major transport improvement to Low Moor.

Low Moor Station for Government

The Government met at Odsal Stadium earlier this week, it would be have great if they had arrived by train at Low Moor and walked up through the industrial village up-to the station. Visiting local businesses along the way.

Instead the station isn’t built, planned finances are in trouble and the town remains languishing.

Low Moor needs the railway station as much if not more than the promised improvements to broadband internet access promised to residents by the Prime Minister.

Apperley Bridge, Kirkstall Forge, Low Moor: On hold?

Planning permission for Apperley bridge has been approved, however the funding is not yet forthcoming from the Department for Transport, the 25% cut across government departments is holding back all spending until a full review of all planned works is undertaken. – Cllr Greaves in T&A.

We have written to Philip Hammond to express our concern about this and Kirkstall Forge, especially as Kirkstall Forge is partially funded by private money!

We remain worried about Low Moor station and will be campaigning hard with Metro/WYITA to ensure that the station does not fall off the list of priorities.

Cllr Greaves stated:

The Bradford worry, if that’s the right term, is Low Moor station. The funding for that was coming from the Regional Funding Allocation. That has been heavily cut so at the moment we don’t know where we are.
“What we have been told is that any spending of capital is at our own risk, so we are sitting on our hands until we know where we are.

Just think, if Low Moor station had been rebuilt in 2001, we would have a busy passenger station, at half the current projected cost, earning revenue.

Low Moor – Spending!

The WYITA today met to approve the payments of £53,000 for work undertaken in preparation for Low Moor Railway Station, the budget for the financial year 2010/11 is £850,000, with £4,597,000 planned spending in 2011/12. It appears that Low Moor might be finally on the way!

Complicated finance bit:
The new station is being funded by the West Yorkshire Strategic Programme of Schemes and not the from the Local Transport Plan (LTP) fund.

The LTP fund is designed for a road, bus, and rail spending. Low Moor station was already scheduled to be funded from LTP (£6,124,000). Moving it from LTP to WYSPS has saved this money, so the LTP’s overspend can instead by spend  on traffic management – £13million. (source here) a £28 million overspend.

Low Moor Services!

The following are the planned services from Low Moor (as at 26/03/10)

2 services an hour to Leeds

2 services an hour to Halifax (1 continues to Manchester Victoria, 1 continues to Wakefield Westgate*).

We will try find out if this is at all times, peak or off peak.

* for those who ever thought that the Selby – Wakefield 2hr27 minute (19mile direct) service couldn’t justifiably take any longer – it will now include Low Moor!

UPDATED: WYITA Meeting 26th March 2:30pm

The Bradford area passenger consultative committee will be meeting this Friday at City Hall.

Topics cover both bus and rail transport. Of specific interest will be plans to improve the facilities at Bradford Interchange: new canopy, new waiting room, and extra CCTV and lighting.

Low Moor will also discussed: The proposed plan will have 2 trains per hour from Low Moor to Leeds (via Bradford), 1 train to Mnachester Victoria and 1 train to Wakefield (both via Halifax).

Apperley Bridge station plans have been sent to the Department for Transport to be approved (and funded).

Please try attending the meeting if you can, otherwise look out for Will Kilner’s article in the Telegraph and Argus.

Low Moor – Pick an excuse – Any excuse!

The latest delay to Low Moor Railway Station has been announced!

Councillor Robinson told the Bradford Passenger Consultative Committee that “Bradford Highways’ proposed changes to the access arrangements to the station, which was delaying scheme development.” Minutes: 15th Jan 2010

So now it is the Highways department that is delaying the start of the design of the station? (A request for information has been logged).

The committee is still of the belief that the station will be opened in 2012.

Vital rail links must not suffer from cuts

Published in the Telegraph & Argus (Friday 19th February 2010)

SIR – Cuts to the Local Transport Plan (T&A, February 16) will surely be of great worry to anyone who uses public transport.

The residents of Low Moor will be obviously worried to see if the proposed cuts will again try hold them back from the new railway station they desperately need.

The public should be campaigning vigorously for LTP funding to be maintained. You cannot have a healthy economy (which we all strive to get back to) built on dilapidated roads and rails!

The Bradford Rail Users’ Group will be fighting hard to ensure funding for Low Moor railway station isn’t cut, and to fight for a cross-Bradford rail link to improve journey times and significantly reduce pressure on the ring road.

James Vasey. Chairman Bradford Rail Users’ Group.

Jam Today – and jams tomorrow!

The Telegraph and Argus have an article (here) about the plans Bradford Council are drawing up in case a  sledgehammer is taken to the Local Transport Plan to help reduce government spending.

This however is surely the wrong thing to be doing in the long-term interests of Bradford and the wider “City Region”.

BRUG’s immediate worry is surely that of the funding for Low Moor railway station.

Is Bradford Council drawing up plans to request more money as well? – Just in case an idea they suggest that might actually resonate with the Department of Transport and they think “Actually that is a good idea, let’s fund it”.

Y&H Rail Utilisation Strategy

The Yorkshire and Humber rail utilisation strategy was released mid-July 2009. At 148 pages and with a large number of appendices it would be almost impossible to provide a critique on the full document, therefore, this post will concentrate on the issues affecting the Airedale and Caldervale lines, (those that have the most effect on Bradford).
