In a recent article in the T&A, Sports Minister Gerry Sutcliffe MP was speaking about the stalled Westfield development and about Cross-Rail:

Can we look at engineering solutions and see what can be done? Is it possible to make Crossrail happen?

“The weight of opinion at the moment means it’s a good time to clear the decks. One of the criticisms of Bradford is that there is no list of priorities.”

Following our meeting on Monday 7th September 2009, Cross Rail is certain on our list of priorities!

Exciting Meeting: Monday 7th September @ 7.30pm

The Bradford Rail Users Group will be having a meeting on the 7th September (7.30pm @ Bradford Community Voluntary Services Group).

The meeting will be discussing a series of proposals regarding a Cross Bradford Rail transport scheme, with short speeches for both Heavy Rail (normal trains) and light rail (trams). Everyone is welcome to come, listen and to make their views heard, the vote that will follow will become the policy of future campaigning for Cross-Bradford Rail.

Rail fares to fall … except here

With inflation at -1.4%, rail fares should be fall by 0.4%. They are, except here in West Yorkshire, where they will be rising by 1.6% to “enable investment in additional trains in and around Leeds.”

Y&H Rail Utilisation Strategy

The Yorkshire and Humber rail utilisation strategy was released mid-July 2009. At 148 pages and with a large number of appendices it would be almost impossible to provide a critique on the full document, therefore, this post will concentrate on the issues affecting the Airedale and Caldervale lines, (those that have the most effect on Bradford).

NXEC to be nationalised

The Secretary of State for Transport, Lord Adonis, confirmed this morning to the BBC and in parliament that NXEC is to be taken into public ownership after admitting that it will be unable to make it’s premium payments. Continue reading

Ryk Downes new WYITA Chairman

Otley and Yeadon councillor Ryk Downes (Lib-Dem) has taken over from Cllr Chris Greaves as the chairman of the West Yorkshire Integrated Transport Authority. The press statement is available here. Cllr Downes has previously been both the Chair and Deputy Chair as the Conservatives and Lib-Dems as the largest groups on the Metro board alternate the position between each other annually.

WYITA oversees the operation of Metro, who provide tendered bus services and work with Northern Rail to provide rail services in West Yorkshire.

Oxenhope train at the buffers

A neglected route

From December 2009 Grand Northern will start operating between Bradford Interchange and London Kings Cross. This is excellent news for Bradford, and will join Forster Square in having a direct London service. Continue reading

Apperley Bridge Station – Public Meeting

The Telegraph and Argus is reporting here on plans by WYMetro for reopening Apperley Bridge railway station. Meetings were held on the 15th and 16th May 2009 at Woodhouse Grove School near the site of the former station. The station will be located on the Airedale line, whilst the other planned station Kirkstall Forge will serve both Airedale and the Wharfedale lines.

Ravensthorpe Railway Station

After reading this document regarding Urban Eco Settlements for the new Leeds City Region.

On page 37 it states that Ravensthorpe station be undergoing over £1.5 million of improvements.

Perhaps it linking Ravensthorpe upto a new Low Moor station with lightrail will improve this small station, improve links to Bradford and provide for developments across Spen-Valley.

A light rail development along the Spen-Valley greenway is in the other campaigns section
